Hermès HAC Birkin 40 Black Matte Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
Description
Hermès HAC Birkin 40 Noir Matte Porosus Crocodile Palladium Hardware
HAC Birkin 40 in Noir Matte Porosus Crocodile with Palladium hardware. The Haut à Courroies is the original Hermès bag silhouette, designed in the late 19th century for saddles and riding equipment. Its proportions are the inverse of the standard Birkin: taller than wide, portrait orientation. At 40 cm the HAC stands approximately 14 inches tall, nearly four inches taller than a Birkin 40.
Porosus (Crocodylus porosus) has smaller, more uniform scales than Niloticus, producing a denser, more refined texture. Matte finish retains a flat, soft hand with no glazing; the surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, giving Noir matte crocodile a depth that reads almost like charcoal in certain lighting. More forgiving of surface contact than Lisse but benefits from periodic conditioning. Scale symmetry well-matched across the front panel. Palladium against Noir matte crocodile is the most restrained exotic specification Hermès produces.

JaneFinds Collector's Insight:
The HAC is produced in far smaller numbers than the standard Birkin and appears sporadically in boutiques, almost never in exotic skins. The 40 cm height provides enough surface area for the full Porosus scale gradation to be visible in a way smaller bags cannot display. Q stamp places this in 2013 production, before Hermès significantly restricted exotic skin availability.
JaneFinds Market Insight:
HAC production in exotic skins has become increasingly scarce since 2015. Palladium hardware has been largely discontinued on new exotic production in favor of Gold and Permabrass, adding a further scarcity layer to this specification.
